Dear Family,

My name is Frauleine Velasquez. I am born and raised in a small town in the Philippines. I studied Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is a registered nurse in my home country. When I was young, I remembered wanting to be a nurse and being able to care for those who are in need but because of personal matters I have not had the chance to pursue my nursing career here in the Philippines. I am currently working as a medical transcriptionist handling patient’s charts or health records.

Accepting me as your caregiver will help me realize my true passion of caring. I believe that my sincere desire to help others coupled with my academic background and skill set makes me a perfect candidate for the job. I have completed 2295 hours of internship with hands-on experience in nursing practice and caring for individuals in all age groups to accredited hospitals and agencies back in college. I am trained in caregiving essentials for physical care like bathing and personal hygiene, dressing assistance, meal and feeding support, transfers, independent living facilitation and other basic quality-of-life health care needs for all ages. I am also trained in First Aid and CPR as part of my college curriculum.

I am particularly fond of children. I remember back in nursing school, we had an internship in a child care center. We basically took care of infants, toddlers and grade-schoolers while their parents were at work. We fed them, changed their diapers, played with them and provided educational activities for them. Also, I have been babysitting once in a while. The most recent one is my cousin, now 2 years old, who I take care whenever his parents have errands to do especially now that they are expecting another baby. During these experiences, I realized that I am deeply interested with child care. The ability to help shape a young mind and allow them to blossom gives me so much joy. Their smiles and their giggles make me forget the stresses of life and because I’m a big kid at heart, I enjoy revisiting the magic of childhood through their experiences.

I am living with my parents. My mother is turning 60 soon and my father is 56. Although they can still basically do everything, I consider myself as their primary caregiver at home as they are already getting old and my father has health issues.

I am a pet parent. I had my first dog when I was 18 and because I loved having a pet it grew in number and now I already have four dogs. It has always felt comforting to me having dogs around. The joy they provide is well worth the effort. It is incredibly fulfilling, warming and entertaining. I also do gardening. I have different plants at home. Similar with taking care of my pets, I consider my plants as my babies I take care every single day.

Another hobby I do is baking. I have been baking recently and have been enjoying this hobby. It is so rewarding when the final product comes out great, tastes good and everyone appreciates it.

When asked about my personality, I never quite know how to answer it. I like to look at myself as a genuine, thoughtful lady. I am optimistic about life that is why I smile a lot. I am a happy person. I’m a hard worker. I believe nothing is ever handed to you so you have to go get it. I am a giver. I care so much about others more than myself. Lastly, I was always thought to put your heart in everything you do.

As a young adult, I want to expand my horizon. I have always been fascinated by Canada and I always imagine what it is like living there. I want to be in a place that will help me grow and I feel like Canada is the best place to be. I am so excited to be there.

Although I do not have a formal job experience of taking care of children or the elderly, I feel like I am a great candidate for being your family’s caregiver as I have valid real life experiences, relevant education and training about the responsibilities of this position and I believe I would be of great help to your family.

Sincerely,
Frauleine Velasquez
