My name is Gloria from Africa ,Botswana. I  was born on the 12th of February 1979 and a second born in a family of seven children. I am married with three adorable children; 17,8 and 5 years of ages. My husband works as a law enforcing officer(police officer) in a  village near the capital city and that’s where we are both staying. All my children go to school. My family is looking forward to staying in Canada and are excited about my moving to Canada, that is, if I get a job offer.

Growing up in a family of 7 children, my parents and cousins has always been a beautiful thing for me since I was the eldest (in girls) and have to take care of my siblings and cousins during my parents’s abscense. This has really fueled up that passion of taking care of other people not  only my family. Caring for my siblings and cousins include bathing, cooking for them, changing nappies for small ones, helping them with school work and playing with them. The family that I am married into also respect the values of family coming together and during weekends and holidays we meet with our families, share ideas, cook and eat and enjoy together. We tell our children stories, cook for them and teach them some house chores, and play with them.

I enjoy traveling and exploring different cultures, meeting different people learning their languages and sharing ideas with them for growth. Singing and dancing has also been my way of relaxing and soul soothing. I speak English and Setswana but I am willing to learn different languages such as French.

Currently, I am working as a Principal registered nurse/Midwife in an accredited 24 hour clinic  under the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Botswana. Nursing as a profession needs someone who is compassionate, trustworthy, caring, empathetic, hardworking and humble and those are the personal attributes that I have. This is evidenced by achieving the ‘Best student in practice award ,Gaborone IHS’ during my Midwifery training in 2009.Nursing deals with learning human systems and diseases that affect the human systems. My 17 years experience as a general nurse involves providing preventative, curative and rehabilitative services and this includes people of all age groups. Having such experience will help me care for people of all age groups regardless of their different health conditions.

Midwifery training includes caring for women during pregnancy, labor and delivery, post delivery care  of babies and mothers and not forgetting their families or significant others. Care  extends to children from birth until 5 years of age. My other responsibilities are ongoing assessment of developmental growth, weighing, giving vaccines against diseases and management of childhood illnesses. I love taking care of children because they are innocent souls, adorable and makes me smile everytime.I also like to care for elderly because they I learn a lot from them about life skills ,values and cultures and would not want to see them suffer because they took care of us while we were young.

As a Principal nurse/midwife I have a management and supervisory responsibility and this will help in managing resources and other things that I will be working with. I am able to work under no or little supervision.

I already feel I am part of the Canadian community and would be honored if given the opportunity to work and stay there.
