My name is Mary Michelle Abian Omadto, thirty-six years of age and born on the 13th of December, 1984 in my beloved country, the Philippines. My family and friends usually called me Mitch. I am married to my husband , Sonny Morales Omadto, for 5 years now and we are blessed with a 4-year old son named Grayson Paul. I have 3 siblings namely: Joy Anne Rafol, 40 years old, next is Lloyd Abian, 38 years old, myself and lastly, Jan Michael Abian, 33 years old. Both of my parents were already deceased.

I love reading books usually about geography and nature. Many say I am also a good singer. My favorite motto in life is “Search for the Best and be the Best” that is why I always work hard to all the things that I do.

I am currently working as a Staff Nurse at a modest health facility in my city which is also near our place of residence. I have been with them for more than 2 years now and I am enjoying every minute of my stay here despite the challenges that our country is experiencing right now brought about by this pandemic because I get to do what I do best – to care for patients. I have been a Staff Nurse since 2007 with extensive experiences both locally and overseas. I had a short stint at a local Nursing Home catering to Cancer patients for 3 years before I took my talents overseas.

The rising cost of living in our country fuelled with my desire to give my siblings a much better life and to prepare for my own future, I grabbed the opportunity to work in another country. I ended up working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an OPD ( Out-Patient Department) Nurse and ER (Emergency Room) Nurse for 3 years and 2 years as a Medical Ward Nurse. We function in a rotational basis and getting pulled out from one department to another when one is understaff is already a normal thing to all of us in that hospital.

There I endured all the hardships and challenges of an overseas worker making all ends meet to give her family a better living. Apart from being at the forefront of every first case of infectious diseases (H1N1 and MERS-CoV ), I also do home services just to perform IV (intravenous) medication administration usually to bed-ridden patients. I was also able to speak Arabic which enabled me to communicate with my patients easily. However, of all the cases I handled in medical ward, what really stuck in my mind is that of a 3- year old girl rape victim. She came to hospital with severe trauma of the ordeal she went through in the hands of her tormentor. She was in a very worse state of shock , totally incoherent of all things I say to her. She had to be given bedside care through intravenous medication administration, bathing her, and feeding her through nasogastric tube. I eventually went back home to my home country because I decided to build my own family and that is when I heard of the news that she already passed away.

I felt sad and lonely at the same time for I have grown attached to her with all the years I spent taking care of her. That is what drove me to pursue a job opportunity as a caregiver for children. With my years of experience, I am hoping that you will find me qualified for this post so I can continue giving care to children similar to care I give to my own child. Furthermore, I also possessed Basic Life Support Training Certificate but its validity has already lapsed. I am, however, very much willing to take a refresher course anytime to renew it. I also have IELTS ( International English Languange Testing System) certification for when I took it last July 2021.

I have never given up on my dream. I believe that by working as a caregiver, I would be able to fulfill my desire of taking care of children and at the same time learn the diverse culture of Canada.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity and I will be waiting for your feedback soon!
